Counselors of Real Estate
Formed in 1950. About 1,100 members engaged in “non-contingent” activity – an euphemism for “non-commission,” which elimates most real estate agents. Membership is about 40% appraiser. Close to 150 members representing 24 countries. Invited to membership – 1978. Southern California Chapter Chair – 2 terms. National Convention Chair (2004). National Vice-chair (2004). Director 6 terms. CRE Emeritus 2012.
Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
Formed 1792 as “Surveyors’ Club;” Re-organized in 1868 as “Institution of Chartered Surveyors.” Royal Charter granted in 1881. British land transactions in 1780 typically needed a survey as a foundation for a sale. The term “Surveyor” survived, although membership now includes many disciplines including estate agents. Worldwide membership close to 160,000 with only 2,000 members in North America; less than 20% of all members are “Fellows.” Invited at the urging of several English and Scottish clients as a Fellow to membership in 2006.
Beverly Hills/Greater Los Angeles Association of REALTORS
Los Angeles Realty Board organized in 1903; the Beverly Hills Realty Board in 1922. These two associations and three others merged into the current association. Current membership around 7,500. Joined 1960. Served two term president and as a REALTOR of the year of a constituent association. Director of three constituent associations. President of the surviving association in 2009. Lifetime Achievement Recipient in 2013.
California Association of REALTORS
Founded in 1910. 1,074,123 members in July 2014. If you are a REALTOR anywhere, you belong to this association. Joined in 1960. REALTOR Emeritus in 2010. Membership in the California Association conveys membership in the National Association of REALTORS.
